Keep the business case and the build spend side by side

Financials gives every project its build economics, a CAPEX vs actual tracker, a customer PPA vs grid model and UK assumptions for a 20-year view, with site-level rates for the sites that are different.

What it does

Six things Financials keeps on every project

Build economics

Price a build as a direct CAPEX total, or as £/kWp multiplied by system size.

Operating costs

Add OPEX per kWp per year, so the case reflects the life of the system and not just the build.

CAPEX vs Actual

Track invoiced cost against the estimate as the build goes on. Within 2% counts as on target.

PPA vs grid

Compare the customer’s PPA price with what they would pay for grid electricity.

20-year UK assumptions

Set financial assumptions per project for a 20-year model of the site.

Site Rates

Override PPA, export, admin fee, grid price and OPEX for an individual site.

Estimate and track

Price the build, then hold it to account

The estimate you approve does not disappear into a drawer. As invoices arrive, Financials compares what has been spent with what was planned, so overruns surface while there is still time to act.

  • Direct CAPEX total, or £/kWp multiplied by system size
  • CAPEX vs Actual tracker, with within 2% counted as on target
  • Total CAPEX tile and inline CAPEX and OPEX inputs on the project overview

Customer and investor

One set of numbers for the customer offer and the 20-year view

The PPA the customer signs and the return the investor expects both come from the same inputs. Change an assumption and both views reflect it, so the two never tell different stories.

  • Customer PPA vs grid model
  • Per-project UK financial assumptions for a 20-year model
  • Build economics and OPEX feed both views

Site Rates

Handle the site that is different without a separate model

A different export tariff, a negotiated admin fee, a tenant on a different grid price. Site Rates holds the exception on the site itself, and Flow knows which value to use.

  • PPA rate, export rate, admin fee, grid alternative price and OPEX
  • Overrides apply to that site only
  • A fixed order decides which value is used (below)

How a rate is chosen

Flow always knows which number to use

When a rate is set in more than one place, Flow takes the first one it finds, in this order.

  1. Site override

A value set in Site Rates for this site.

  2. Investor model

The value in the investor model, if there is no site override.

  3. Quote

The value from the quote, if neither of the above is set.

  4. Default

The portfolio default, used when nothing more specific exists.

Questions about Financials

What counts as on target in CAPEX vs Actual?

Invoiced cost within 2% of the estimate counts as on target.

Can we use £/kWp before a contractor has priced the job?

Yes. Price the build as £/kWp multiplied by system size, then switch to a direct CAPEX total when you have one.

Can one site have different rates from the rest of the portfolio?

Yes. Site Rates overrides the PPA rate, export rate, admin fee, grid alternative price and OPEX for that site only.

Do the figures feed portfolio reporting?

Yes. The Lifecycle Board shows CAPEX per project and per stage, and custom reports show combined CAPEX and average £/kWp for any set of projects you filter.

Can existing project data be imported?

Yes. The Import from Excel action on each project fills any empty fields from a template and never overwrites values already in Flow.
